To ask the Minister for Health if his attention has been brought to the difficulties faced by many Long Covid patients in accessing Covid-19 booster vaccines, in particular a non-MRNA vaccine (Novavax produce a non-MRNA vaccine preferred by many who are immunocompromised or who have had adverse reactions to the MRNA vaccines. The Covid-19 Vaccine Guide Version 1 July 2022 states that "if you cannot have or do not want to have an mRNA vaccine you can get Nuvaxovid." In order to avail of this vaccine one needs to contact HSE Live on 1800 700 700. The problems people are encountering with HSELive are:o Eligibility criteria is inconsistent and seems to differ from one staff member to the next. o Long COVID is not recognised by some of the staff as being an immunocompromised condition, despite much scientific evidence including WHO which recognises that Long COVID has resulted in many sufferers being immunocompromisedo Patients are being asked to prove they are immunocompromised and told that their treating doctor would have to put them on an immunocompromised register. Patients report that their GPs and treating Consultants do not know how to do this as they have not been trained on how to add Long COVID patients to this register.o Some people are being left indefinitely on waiting lists and others are expected to travel considerably long distances in order to get to a vaccination centre that can administer Novavax. This can be impossible for some people who are unable to travel. It is difficult to understand why many GPs & Pharmacists are still unaware of, and untrained in administering this vaccine. o Several people have told us that the vaccination centres have informed them that the take up for this vaccine is very low, yet people are left waiting for months or refused by HSELive.); if he will engage with the HSE to ensure that there is a clearly documented process to signpost how Long Covid and immunocompromised patients can access the non-MRNA vaccine; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
