HSE Media Statement
2 January 2025
Following sustained presentations with Flu symptoms to its Emergency Dept. and an increase in Flu positive inpatients, the following measures are now in place at University Hospital Waterford (UHW):
- Surgical mask wearing is mandatory in all areas of the hospital for staff and visitors, in addition to the wearing of Filtering Face Piece (FFP) 2 masks in all outbreak wards in UHW until further notice.
- Visiting at UHW will be restricted to appointment with the ward only, based on exceptional circumstances.
- Bag drop-off will be in place at the Dunmore Wing entrance of UHW.
- All patients attending Outpatients and the Emergency Dept. at UHW are asked to attend alone where possible, to minimise footfall.
Masks will be available at all hospital entrances and in each ward.
As of today, Thursday 2 January, UHW has 61 Flu, three COVID-19 and three Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) positive inpatients and a high volume of staff across all disciplines absent with flu symptoms.
University Hospital Waterford thanks the public for its ongoing support in the implementation of these measures, in its effort to protect all patients and staff. The situation will be kept under constant review.
Vaccines continue to be available daily for all who wish to avail.
