The Arches is a designated centre providing a residential service to five people with disabilities which is run by the Health Service Executive (HSE). The centre is located on the outskirts of a town in Co. Monaghan and has easy access to a variety of local amenities. The centre comprises of one dwelling house and a one bedroom apartment to the rear of the main dwelling house. All residents of The Arches have their own single bedroom and share communal areas which include the kitchen/dining room and two sitting rooms. Residents have access to shared bathroom facilities. The centre has access to its own transport to facilitate community based outings and activities which residents wish to access.
The Arches Designated Centre was inspected by the Health Information & Quality Authority (HIQA) on April 16th 2024 and the report was published on the HIQA website on July 9th 2024.
Overall the inspection found that the individual choices and preferences of the residents of The Arches were promoted. The HIQA inspector on the day observed that residents appeared happy and content in their home. The residents were active in their local community, with some attending bingo, joining groups and going out for a drink in local pubs and bars.
A total of seventeen regulations were inspected on the day of inspection with sixteen receiving a fully compliant judgement and one receiving a substantially compliant judgement.
The following action has been undertaken to ensure full regulatory compliance with the required standards:
- The Person in Charge has included the use of plastic cutlery in the current restrictive register and this will be continuously reviewed.
HSE Disability Services in Community Healthcare Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo will continue to work to ensure that robust governance, quality and safety arrangements are in place within The Arches to ensure high quality services are experienced by all residents.
