Abbeyville Designated Centre was registered in July 2024 and three residents transitioned to the centre in October 2024. Abbeyville is a large bungalow located in a rural setting which has been fully refurbished and extended and incorporates three bedrooms. One bedroom had an en-suite bathroom with a level access shower. There is also a large shared bathroom with level access shower and a large bathtub. In addition, there is a sitting room, dining room, kitchen, utility room and staff office. Residents are supported by a team of nursing and care staff with the support of a CNM2.
Abbeyville was inspected on November 26 2024 and the report was published on the HIQA website on January 29 2025.
On the day of inspection is was evident that consideration had been given to the residents’ current needs and possible supports that they might require in the future. Residents’ preferences had also been considered in the design of the house. The bathroom had an extra-large bathtub as some residents preferred baths to showers. All bedrooms and the main bathroom had tracking hoists in the ceiling. The house was very nicely decorated with new, comfortable furniture. Some personal touches had been added and residents had photographs on display in their bedrooms.
The inspector spoke to one resident on the day of inspection and one resident, supported by staff, had completed a questionnaire that captured the residents opinion on the centre. The questionnaire indicated that the resident was happy with their new home and the service that they received.
Sixteen regulations were inspected.Thirteen received a compliant judgement and three were deemed to be substantially complaint.
The following actions have been undertaken to address the substantially complaint judgements:
- Contracts of Care will be signed off and will be filed in each resident’s financial folder.
- Simulated fire drills have been undertaken with staff and residents Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans have been reviewed and updated.
- A Speech & Language Therapy review of resident’s communication will be undertaken to formulate a new template for residents meetings for residents with non-verbal communication.
- Nightly checks have been discussed at the Human Rights Committee meeting and the Restrictive Practice Policy has been reviewed to include this. Risk assessments have been completed for each resident in this regard.
