Glendalough designated centre is a residential service managed by the HSE providing residential accommodation to ten adults with intellectual disability. This designated centre comprises of three individual houses, located close to each other, in a residential area in County Sligo. The houses within the centre are each comprised of kitchen/dining areas and sitting rooms which are available for entertainment, relaxation and socialising. All residents have their own bedrooms with access to shared bathroom and toilet facilities. The Glendalogh centre is staffed on a twenty four hour basis by a skill mix of nursing and care attendant staff and is governed by a Person in Charge.
The Health Information & Quality Authority (HIQA) carried out an announced inspection at Glendalough designated centre on the 29th January 2024. The inspection was undertaken to inform a registration renewal application and the report was published on the HIQA website on May 15th 2024.
The inspection found that residents living in Glendalough were provided with a person-centred service where their choices and rights were upheld. Residents and a family member expressed satisfaction with the service provided through conversations held with and questionnaires provided to the HIQA inspector. The inspector noted that residents presented with a diverse range of care and support needs which were supported by a consistent and dedicated staff team which along with good governance arrangements ensured that a safe and effective service was provided.
The inspection assessed the service in respect of sixteen regulations and all sixteen were found to be compliant as detailed in the report.
HSE Disability Services in Community Healthcare Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo will continue to work to ensure that robust governance, quality and safety arrangements are in place within the Glendalough centre to ensure high quality services are provided to all residents.
