World Mental Health Day was marked by a “Positivi-Tea” event at the HSE’s Dept. of Psychiatry acute mental health inpatient facility in Waterford.
A 44 bed unit serving the Waterford/Wexford catchment area Situated on situated on the grounds of University Hospital Waterford, resources for its service users in the Dept. of Psychiatry (DoP) include the ongoing nurse led discussion group called “Positivi-Tea”.
Staff gathered in the Recreation and Recovery Room at the DoP for the special World Mental Health Day (Thursday 10th of October) Positivi-Tea “cuppa and chat” gathering, before being joined by service users to enjoy the range of refreshments provided.
A related support resource at the DoP is located on the corridor outside the Recreation and Recovery Room there. Service users, in addition to staff, write messages on the available “post-its” and then place them on the noticeboard known as the “Gratitude Wall”. One message on the Gratitude Wall for World Mental Health Day read “Nurture gratitude. Cultivate joy”.
World Mental Health Day – and World Mental Health Month for October – help to shine a spotlight on mental health. It provides further opportunities to raise awareness of mental health, reduce mental health stigma and promote the broad range of services and supports available to people in communities across the country.
The theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day is ‘Mental Health at Work’.
