The HSE are delighted to confirm that planning permission has been approved for a new day services centre for adults from 18 years upwards with Intellectual Disabilities in South Donegal.
The new centre will be based at the site of the former Cleary Centre, Ballybofey Road, Drumlonagher in Donegal Town.
The existing derelict property will be demolished with the construction of a brand-new building.
A range of indoor and outdoor therapeutic spaces will be provided in the new development. This includes four large multipurpose rooms each with their own designated secure outdoor area, therapy spaces including physio room, regulation room, training kitchen and laundry, in addition to a large dinning space and staff facilities. A covered outdoor area for activities is included in the development along with outdoor recreational spaces for the service users including a greenhouse.
It will be designed and built in accordance with the required national HSE New Directions policy for the delivery of day services to people with disabilities and in line with the required standards and regulations.
A project review team has been involved in reviewing the original project brief, prior to the submission of the planning application which includes a nominee from the Cleary Centre Parents and Friends Group, the manager of the Cleary Centre, HSE Estates Project Officer and a Disability Services Manager.
Speaking about the planning application approval, Edel Quinn, HSE Head of Service for Disabilities, Community Services Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo said, “We are delighted to be at this stage of the development of our new Cleary day services centre for adults with Intellectual Disabilities. We look forward to continuing to liaise with the people who use the service and their families at each stage of this process and to continue on this journey together to bring this project to fruition.”
The HSE has and will continue to engage with service users and their families at each stage of the process.
