National Services Day marked in Kilkenny

National Services Day was marked by the HSE in the South East at the weekend.

Every day, frontline, emergency (including the HSE’s National Ambulance Service) and security personnel work tirelessly to keep the citizens of the Ireland safe – often in challenging circumstances. National Services Day is an opportunity to meet the people involved outside the working environment and it also allows the frontline, emergency and security services to thank the public for their support and assistance.

The family fun day, which showcased the work that the emergency services do, culminated in Kilkenny Castle Park on Saturday 14th September with a demonstration by the frontline emergency services on responding to a road incident.

This is the third year of the National Services Day at Kilkenny Castle. Those taking part included the Defence Forces, An Garda Síochána, Kilkenny Fire Brigade, National Ambulance Service and the HSE, Irish Coast Guard, Irish Prison Service, Civil Defence, South East Mountain Rescue, RNLI, the Revenue Commissioners, Community First Responders, the Red Cross, the Order of Malta, Blood Bikes, Kilkenny Sub Aqua, Irish Water Safety, the OPW, Kilkenny County Council, Waterford Search and Rescue, The Irish U.N. Veterans, O.N.E and the St. Patricks Brass and Reed Band.

The HSE stand included information available on winter vaccinations, safeguarding, self-management support for chronic illnesses, the Living Well Programme, health promotion, smoking cessation, hand hygiene and information on St Luke’s General Hospital Carlow/Kilkenny. Among the many visitors we welcomed to HSE stand was Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage with special responsibility for Heritage and Electoral Reform Malcolm Noonan T.D.
