The HSE’s Substance Misuse Services were guest contributors today at the South East Technological University (SETU)’s Inter-Professional Practice and Education Week event.
Organised by SETU’s Dept. of Social Care and Early Childhood at SETU’s College St. Campus in Waterford, the aim of the event is to provide Social Care and Early Childhood Studies students with an insight in to multiple services that provide healthcare, humanistic and therapeutic interventions.
The Week includes a wide range of Talks for students and staff. A Fair also featured, where a selection of agencies and services that employ Social Care Workers were available to provide information and answer questions that students may have about the work and role of such a professional, in addition to future employment opportunities.
The theme of the HSE’s presentation was “Reducing Harm, Supporting Recovery, A Health Led Approach to Substance Use”.
Summarising his message at the event, John Devlin (A/Co-ordinator, Substance Misuse Services, HSE Waterford) said:
“The HSE’s Substance Misuse Services are delighted to have been invited to attend this important event facilitated by SETU’s Dept. of Social Care and Early Childhood Studies. It is an opportunity for the HSE to provide third level students and potential future HSE healthcare providers with an insight in to our health-led and humanistic responses to individuals and/or families who are experiencing problematic substance use.”
Also speaking at the presentation in SETU’s College St. Waterford Campus, Outreach/Social Care Worker for the HSE in Waterford Sharon Clarke said:
“The role of Outreach Worker within the HSE’s Substance Misuse Services is one that entails aspects of the theoretical frameworks provided to Social Care Students. Presenting at this event, therefore, provides students with an opportunity to reflect on these frameworks, whilst also gaining an awareness of the day to day best practices within the role of Outreach Worker.”
