Stranbeg designated centre is managed by the Health Service Executive via Community Healthcare Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo Disability Services. This centre consists of two community residences - Hazelbrook Community House and Summerville Apartments which are located in Co Sligo.
Hazelbrook is a large dormer house which comprises of a kitchen/dining area, utility room with laundry facilities and two living rooms/relaxation areas. Residents have their own bedroom with one bedroom having en-suite facilities. There is a large garden to the front of the property, with level access at exits for residents’ accessibility.
Summerville apartments comprises of three individual self-contained apartments, each of which has a bedroom, bathroom, living area and kitchenette with all three apartments located within one building.
Stranbeg designated centre was inspected by the Health Information & Quality Authority (HIQA) on 14 May 2024 and the report was published on the HIQA website on August 20 2024.
On the day of inspection the HIQA inspector noted that the centre was warm and bright and was in a good state of repair. As part of planned renovations, upgrades had taken place to include the installation of new fitted kitchens in some of the designated centre’s apartments. The HIQA inspector noted bedrooms at the centre were decorated and furnished in line with the residents’ needs.
The inspector also noted that staff of the designated centre were very knowledgeable on the needs of residents and there was evidence that staff regularly advocated on residents’ behalf. It was noted that staff supported residents, who required assistance with eating and drinking, in a respectful and dignified manner.
On the day of inspection nineteen regulations were inspected of which eighteen received a compliant judgement and one was deemed to be substantially compliant.
The following action has been undertaken to address the substantially compliant judgement received:
- A deep clean has been undertaken and identified maintenance work has also been completed.
HSE Disability Services in Community Healthcare Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo will continue to work to ensure that robust governance, quality and safety arrangements are in place within Stranbeg to ensure high quality services are provided ongoing to all residents.
