Leacain designated centre is managed by the HSE via Community Healthcare Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo Disability Services. Leacain centre provides residential care and support to people with intellectual disabilities. The centre is a spacious bungalow which is located in a rural setting in County Sligo. The centre comprises of a kitchen/dining room and two living rooms/relaxation areas. Residents each have their own bedroom with one bedroom having en-suite facilities and others accessing a main bathroom. There is a large garden to the front and rear of the centre. Residents have access to dedicated transport at the centre and it is a short drive to the nearest town and local recreational and scenic amenities.
The Health Information & Quality Authority (HIQA) undertook an announced inspection of Leacain designated centre on 23 May 2024 and the report was published on the HIQA website on August 20 2024.
On the day of inspection the HIQA inspector reviewed four residents’ questionnaires which were completed by residents. All questionnaires returned provided positive feedback about the service residents experience at the centre, the quality of residents’ bedrooms, the kindness of the staff team and the compatibility of the resident group living together.
The inspection report notes that residents living at Leacain were provided with a person-centred service where their choices and rights were upheld. The premises provided was suitable for residents’ assessed needs. In addition, residents were actively involved in their communities in line with their individual preferences.
On the day of inspection fifteen regulations were inspected, fourteen received a compliant judgement and one was deemed substantially compliant. The following improvement action has been undertaken to address the substantially compliant judgement received:
- The service has ensured that all written agreements have now been completed and reviewed with all residents and their representative as appropriate.
HSE Disability Services in Community Healthcare Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo will continue to work to ensure that robust governance, quality and safety arrangements are in place within Leacain to ensure high quality services are provided ongoing to all residents.
