Kildalton is a HSE run designated centre located in a rural area within driving distance of a busy village and a regional town in Co. Sligo. The centre is under the management of Community Healthcare Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo Disability Services. Kildalton centre provides residential care for up to five adult residents with intellectual disabilities. The centre comprises of a bungalow dwelling with each resident having their own bedroom, a number of which have en-suite facilities. In addition there are shared bathrooms, communal rooms, a garden room and a large accessible garden space. The centre is staffed on a twenty four hour basis.
The Health Information & Quality Authority undertook an unannounced inspection of Kildalton designated centre on the 21 March 2024 and the report was published on the HIQA website on August 20 2024.
On the day of inspection the HIQA inspector found that the centre was a welcoming home with a warm relaxed atmosphere. The inspector noted that residents were provided with a good quality, person-centred and rights based service where they are active participants in their community. Staff working in the centre were described as being familiar with residents’ support needs and attentive to their requirements. In addition the inspector noted there were good governance arrangements in place that ensured that a safe and effective service was provided.
On the day of inspection fourteen regulations were inspected. Thirteen regulations received a fully compliant judgement and one regulation was deemed not compliant. A Compliance Plan has been returned to HIQA which details the following action to bring the centre into full compliance:
- The garden room is now included on the floorplan for the designated centre in line with the requirements of schedule 1 of the regulation. The Statement of Purpose for the centre has also been updated to reflect this change.
The HSE will continue to work to ensure that high quality services are delivered and maintained ongoing within Kildalton Designated Centre.
