An Ghrianán designated centre is managed by the HSE Community Healthcare Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo Disability Services. The centre provides full-time residential care for up to four residents with disabilities. The centre consists of one single-storey house located in a residential area outside a large town, where public transport links are available. Each resident has their own bedroom and within their centre have access to shared bathroom facilities, a kitchen and a reception room which is warm and comfortably furnished. The centre is staffed with a skill mix of nursing and care staff, with one staff member providing sleepover cover each night.
The Health Information & Quality Authority (HIQA) inspection was an announced inspection carried out on the 25 and 26 March 2024 and the report was published on the HIQA website on August 20 2024.
On the day of inspection the HIQA inspectors found that residents living in An Ghrianán were provided with a high quality person-centred service where their choices and rights are upheld. All residents expressed satisfaction with the service provided through the questionnaires and through communications with the inspectors. The inspectors also noted that residents were happy and content in the centre and got on well with each other.
Twenty one regulations were inspected on the day of inspection with twenty regulations deemed fully compliant and one regulation deemed to be substantially compliant. A Compliance Plan has been submitted to HIQA and the following actions have been completed to ensure full compliance with regulation within the An Ghrianán centre:
- A recruitment campaign is currently underway to recruit permanent Care Assistants for this centre.
- Risk assessments have been updated to identify the number of consistent agency staff used in the designated centre and the existing controls in place to manage this.
- Consistent agency staff have completed HSE mandatory training and are included on the centre’s training matrix which is monitored on an ongoing basis.
- A schedule has been implemented for the supervision and performance management for all consistent agency staff in the centre.
HSE Disability Services in Community Healthcare Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo will continue to work to ensure that robust governance, quality and safety arrangements are in place within the An Ghrianán centre to ensure high quality services are provided ongoing to all residents.
