Heart health event aims to keep women well

Come along to a girls' night with a difference - a free HSE Heart Health and Wellness event for women over 40 is taking place at the River Island Hotel in Castleisland on Thursday, 14 November from 7pm-8.30pm.

This HSE Cork Kerry Community Healthcare event will empower women to advocate for their own health by connecting with supports and services within the community. Focusing on ‘wellness rather than illness’, this event will outline preventative measures of heart disease.

Speakers include: HSE Community Physiotherapist Doreen Moore, who will focus on muscle and bone health; Community Occupational Therapist Ellen Delaney, who will offer advice on sleep/stress difficulties and Community Dietician Sarah Dowling, who will provide tips on how to eat well for optimum heart health. There will be other health professionals and women from within the community speaking on the night also.

HSE Cork Kerry Community Healthcare Physiotherapist, Doreen Moore, said:

"As a chartered physiotherapist; I frequently observe health challenges that occur due to reduced muscle strength and reduced bone quality. Some of these challenges can occur as we age and, for women in particular, alteration in hormone levels can play a part.

"It is never too early to start thinking about what you can do to keep yourself strong and active for your middle and older age. Today might be the first day you think about this, or perhaps this is something you are already working on. Either way, I'll be delighted to meet you at this women's wellness event to discuss any queries you have regarding how exercise might help you keep your muscles and bones healthy."

General Manager of Primary Care with Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, Michael Moriarty, said:

"I would encourage all women to come along to this free heart health and wellbeing evening, which will be a casual, conversational-style event, with speakers rotating through groups. The aim is to spark conversations with like-minded women over a cup of tea or coffee.

"These community events are always informative and great fun; we love seeing so many women not only catching up with one another socially - but also accessing loads of really useful information, all in one place."

All attendees will be offered free refreshments and a goodie bags on the night. Tickets can be reserved free of charge through Eventbrite,  or by calling Norita on 066 915 3425.
