Free Dementia Information Evening Comes to Charleville

HSE Cork Kerry Community Healthcare Press Release

The HSE Cork North Community Work Department (HSE Cork Kerry Community Healthcare) working in partnership with The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, and The North Cork Dementia Alliance are delivering a series of Free Community Dementia Information Evenings across County Cork.

All are invited to attend the free event, happening on Wednesday, 25th September from 6:30pm-9:00pm Charleville Park Hotel, Charleville, Co. Cork, P56V268.

Hear from Guest Speakers who have first-hand experience of dementia. People living with a dementia diagnosis and their carers will gain key information on the community-based supports and advocacy services available to those living with a dementia diagnosis.

On 25 September, HSE Cork Kerry Commuity Healthcare will welcome guest speakers:

  • Charlie Drake - Living with a diagnosis of Dementia
  • Ann Cunningham - Family Carer
  • Dr Emma Jennings - Consultant Geriatrician
  • Amy Murphy - Dementia Advisor Alzheimer Society of Ireland
  • Sheena Cadoo - Occupational Therapist
  • North Cork Dementia Alliance and Kevin Quaid - Dementia Inclusive Communities

Sorcha Ni Chrualaoich, HSE Principal Community Worker with Cork North Community Work Department, says “We are delighted to be able to bring this Dementia information event to North Cork, which builds on the success of previous events held in Cork City and County. These events are made possible through collaboration between the HSE and Community and voluntary partners and we hope that they will be beneficial to local families living with a diagnosis of dementia”.

Ann Cunningham, who cares for her husband Tom, highlighted the importance of joining the Dementia Evenings said:  “We hope that some of the different topics discussed will give knowledge and comfort to both carers and people with dementia.”

The Dementia Information evenings are open to anyone living with a diagnosis of Dementia, family carers, home helps (Health Care Support Assistants), professionals or those with an interest in learning more about Dementia.
