HSE Media Release

A Green Ribbon Family Fun Festival will take place in Glenveagh National Park, Donegal this September.

The event takes place on Sunday September 8 2024 from 11am to 2pm at Glenveagh National Park.

This is an information day for individuals and families to coincide with World Suicide Prevention Day which takes place on the 10 of September and Green Ribbon Month.

Activities on the day will showcase ideas on how we can include the five ways to wellbeing as part of our daily and weekly routines. They will include some practical demonstrations of ways we can “Be active, Take notice, Connect with others, Learn and to Give”. The programme includes Nature Reconnection talks, The Green Ribbon Mindful Walk to the castle with free shuttle bus back, Web of Life activities, Children's Scavenger Hunt, Music at the Castle in the Orangery and The Tree of Intention in memory of lost loved ones.

A number of service providers will also have stands available on the day to inform the public about services available locally.

This is part of Glenveagh Park’s community outreach and engagement programme. The HSE Connecting for Life Donegal has worked in partnership with Glenveagh and the Donegal Family Resource centres to organise this interagency wellness event.

Other interagency partners involved in the event include Sláintecare Healthy Communities, Tusla, Donegal Local Development CLG (DLDC), Mental Health Ireland, Donegal Intercultural Platform and Donegal Parent and Family Support Service.

According to Ciara Wray, Resource Officer for Suicide Prevention, Donegal “This will be a fun day out for all the family, in the beautiful surroundings of Glenveagh where they will learn vital skills to help enhance their wellbeing and promote positive mental health. I want to thank all the partners that have worked together to ensure that this event came to fruition.”

Breege Ward representing the Donegal Family Resource centre network added “We are delighted to be leading out on this event as part of our partnership working under Connecting for Life. As funded services, we all have our part to play in breaking down stigma about mental health and it’s a fabulous opportunity for us to be able to communicate to the public the wide range of mental health and wellness services and supports available to them and members of their family should they require them.”

This event is open to all members of the community of Donegal no registration is necessary. Just come along on the day.
