Women’s Health Service (WHS)

Free Confidential Healthcare for Women in the sex industry

The WHS is located at the Meath Primary Care Campus, Heytesbury Street, Dublin 8. D08 HX9.

At the WHS, we recognise the unique healthcare needs of cis and transgender women involved in the sex industry. Our Women’s Health Service (WHS) is dedicated to providing confidential and supportive healthcare services to all women, in this industry.

Sexual Health & GP Clinics

  • Health screening, assessment and treatments
  • Viral blood testing for, HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis
  • Hepatitis vaccinations, PrEP for those who meet criteria and onward referral to specialist services if required
  • Cervical smear check
  • Contraception-pill, patch and depo-provera
  • Acute non-emergency medical issues

Mental Health Support

Our psychologist provides a Drop In service during Thursday clinics, providing a confidential space to ask questions, get information on common mental health problems, strategies for managing stress, signposting to other support services and ongoing intervention if necessary.

Social Care Team

  • Support, advice and information
  • Free condoms
  • Free period products
  • Advice on safer sex, personal safety
  • Legal and immigration issues, exiting options
  • Referrals to statutory and NGO agencies and help liaising with police if required

Staff at WHS

  • Doctors provide medical services such as screening, treatment, advice and support. Referrals are also arranged if necessary for further treatment or other medical investigations
  • Nurses provide screenings, blood testing and vaccinations and further advice and support where necessary
  • Triage: A staff member may speak with clients by phone in advance of their appointment to assess what services are needed
  • The Social Care Team will offer information and support Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and at clinics
  • Our Psychologist provides a drop in at Thursday clinic and is also available by referral from the team
