Regional Departments of Public Health

About us

There are six Departments of Public Health, one in each HSE Health Region. Each one is led by an Area Director of Public Health who is also a regional Medical Officer of Health:

  • Public Health HSE Dublin and North East serves Dublin North Central, North West Dublin, North Dublin, Cavan, Louth, Meath, Monaghan, 
  • Public Health HSE Dublin and Midlands serves Dublin South City, Dublin South West, Dublin West, Kildare, Wicklow (West), Laois, Offaly, Longford, and Westmeath
  • Public Health HSE Dublin and South East serves Dublin (South East), Dun Laoghaire, Carlow, Kilkenny, South Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford, Wicklow (East)
  • Public Health HSE South West serves Cork and Kerry.
  • Public Health HSE Mid West serves Limerick, Clare, and North Tipperary
  • Public Health HSE West and North West serves Galway, Mayo, Roscommon, Donegal, Sligo, and Leitrim

Our multidisciplinary regional Department of Public Health teams work to protect, support, enable and advise on the health and wellbeing of the population, delivering services across the 4 domains of Public Health - Health Protection, Health Intelligence, Health Service Improvement and Health Improvement.
