Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapists work with individuals with disabilities, illness or injury to help them maintain or achieve independence in their daily living tasks. An occupational therapist can identify problem areas that patients may have in their everyday lives, such as dressing or getting to the shops, and will help them to work out practical solutions.
Your local Occupational Therapist is based in The Occupational Therapy Department, The Community Hospital of the Assumption, Thurles.
Your therapist can help you with:
- Functional assessments at home
- Recommendations on housing/environmental adaptations
- Advice regarding the local authority grant system/OT functional reports
- Advice and provision of specialist and enabling equipment to optimise safety/independence**
- Wheelchair Assessment and seating provision
- Advice for pressure relief relevant to seating
- Assessments for hoists and other manual handling equipment provision
- Onward referral to Occupational Therapy specialists as required
