Mental Health Intellectual Disabilities
The MHID team is a specialist adult mental health service specifically for adults with an intellectual disability. It is a multidisciplinary team, with clinicians who have the appropriate training and experience to better assess and treat this population, taking into account their specific needs.
Relatives Support Group
The Relatives Support Group offers support and education to relatives and friends of people with Mental Health needs. They meet the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm at The Boardroom, Ardee Business Park, Hale Street, Ardee, Co. Louth.

Acute Unit, Drogheda Department of Psychiatry
The Drogheda Department of Psychiatry is a registered 46 bed integrated acute admission unit on the campus of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, Co. Louth. The unit consists of 46 single bedrooms with en-suite facilities.
Of the 46 beds there is a separate 8 bedded unit for Psychiatry of Old Age or Mental Health Services for Older People. We provide multi-disciplinary mental health services to older patients under our care, whose needs cannot be met in the community.
The acute admission unit provides in-patient specialist assessment and treatment for individuals during an acute phase of their mental health illness. The unit offers acute in-patient services to the population of County Louth and Meath from age 18 upwards presenting with acute mental health difficulties. Emphasis is placed on a holistic approach to care provided by a multidisciplinary team consisting of medical, nursing staff, occupational therapists, social workers, psychologists, healthcare assistants, pharmacist and a range of counsellors. Admissions are usually of short duration and follow-up care is provided by the appropriate community mental health teams.
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)
What do we do?
We provide assessment and intervention for young people presenting with moderate to severe mental health difficulties. In general we work with children up to the age of 18.
There are a number of reasons why young people come to see us, for instance, there may be difficulties with behavior or feelings, problems at school or problems in relationships, or there may be physical symptoms, stress related problems or eating problems.
How do you get referred?
All these referral agents must work in collaboration* with the child or adolescent’s General Practitioner (GP) to ensure continuity of care.
The GP**, Paediatricians (informing the GP), Consultant Psychiatrists (informing the GP),
Emergency Department (ED) doctors in conjunction with the ED Consultant (informing the GP), Community-based clinicians (at senior/team leader level or above, in collaboration with the GP*), Tusla – The Child and Family Agency (team leader level or above in collaboration with the GP*), Assessment Officers, as defined under the Disability Act 2005 (in collaboration with the GP*), Jigsaw (senior clinician in collaboration with the GP*), Community Medical Doctors (informing the GP) and National Educational Psychologists (senior - in collaboration with the GP*)
*In collaboration with the GP means the referral agent must ring the GP and discuss and agree the potential referral so it is a truly collaborative referral. Best practice would suggest that a physical health assessment is completed by the relevant medical practitioner (usually the child or adolescent’s GP) and the details of this assessment are included in the referral.
** GPs are usually the first point of contact for families. Therefore they are ideally placed to recognise risk factors for mental disorder and refer to specialist services such as CAMHS.

The Community Mental Health Team is a multidisciplinary team. This means it is made up of many different professionals, such as doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, family therapists and psychologists. It provides a holistic adult mental health service for counties Louth and Meath. This means the service considers your physical, emotional, psychological and social needs.
The team offers:

- A comprehensive care programme that enables the person to continue with their lifestyle without disruption, where ever possible

Adult Community Rehabilitation Service (Louth and Meath)
The Community Rehabilitation Service (CRS) provides support and treatment to people with long-term mental health needs, focusing on their physical, emotional, social and intellectual wellbeing that promotes recovery from their illness.
The service is made up of these smaller teams:
- Assertive outreach team
- Social work
- 24-hour staffed residences
- Occupational therapy
Each individual service user has an identified ‘key worker’. The key worker helps and supports you with day-to-day care. If you have any worries or concerns about your care or treatment contact your key worker.
Your key worker will put together a ‘care plan’ with you that the team will use. This is a plan based on your own needs and focuses on recovering from illness. It will help you get exactly what you need from the Community Rehabilitation Service.
You are entitled to a copy of your care plan.

Psychiatry of Later Life Service
The Psychiatry of Later Life Service provide high quality, patient centred mental health care to people who develop mental health needs as they age (over 65). They provide both community and hospital based care.
Who can use the Community Mental Health Services for Older People?
We offer assessment, treatment and support to adults over the age of 65 years who are having difficulties with their mental health (usually for the first time) - including symptoms of anxiety, depression or other mental illness.
We also offer support to people with dementia and their families, where the person has behavioural or psychological symptoms or Non Cognitive Symptoms of dementia.
If necessary, we can offer memory testing to those linked with our service and we provide a range of information and supports to help guide you after a diagnosis.
We are a HSE run service, and we offer support to people living in the community and in Nursing Homes where required.

What happens when I use this service?
You will usually be offered an appointment with a doctor for an assessment. This appointment may take place in our clinic or at your home. Telephone and video link appointments are sometimes offered. You can bring someone to support you.
After your initial appointment, the doctor will discuss your case with the other members of the team and a decision will be made regarding an appropriate treatment plan and support options. You may then be referred to other professionals on the team for further follow up and support.
A range of services are offered by the various professionals on the team including mental health assessments and monitoring, medication provision, talking therapies, group support, carer support, crisis planning, practical advice, psychoeducation and advocacy.
