MIDOC has recently introduced a text messaging service which allows Deaf / Hard of Hearing people to have independent access to the MIDOC Service.
The initiative enhances and enables access to the GP out of hours service for Deaf or hard of hearing clients who require urgent medical attention without the involvement of a hearing person. The objective is to provide a safe, cost effective text messaging service which is client / user friendly, efficient, confidential and enables access to the G.P. out of hours service for registered deaf clients.
Pre-registration is required by filling out the registration form (docx)
Completed form can be posted to Aine Ennis CNM11, Regional Triage Centre, 3rd Floor Scott Building, MRHT Arden Rd, Tullamore, Co Offaly
The client’s details will then be uploaded onto the MIDOC computer system which links directly to the client’s mobile number. The text messaging number will be issued on registration.
Using the Out of Hours text service
- Patient sends a short text message containing their name, the illness that concerns them, and if they are able to travel to the health centre.
- This text message is sent by the patient to the designated MIDOC text number and is received by the triage nurse on a computer in the call assessment centre.
- The nurse replies to the text instructing the patient of the time and location of the consultation.
- The triage nurse then informs the staff in the selected treatment centre of the expected arrival of a patient with speech/ hearing difficulties.
