Guidance on applying for or renewing a Liquor License

Under Section 4 of the Public Health (Alcohol) Act 2018, an applicant for a licence under the Licensing Acts or Registration of Clubs Acts must notify the Health Service Executive’s (HSE’s) National Environmental Health Service in writing, one month before applying for a new licence, or renewing an existing licence.

Note: Applications for a Dance Licence, or a Music and Singing Licence do not require notification to the HSE

Applications for liquor licences are made either to the Court Service or to Revenue.

Your notification to the HSE will differ depending on who you are making your application to.

Notify the HSE at csol.ie

Notice must be served on the Principal Environmental Health Officer for the area in which the premises are situated.

Alternatively, notify the Principal Environmental Health Officer for the area in which the premises are situated by post or email.
