Dr Lucy Jessop, Director of the National Immunisation Office. |
I am pleased to announce the publication of the National Immunisation Office (NIO) Strategic plan. The release of this report marks a key milestone in public health, outlining goals to help achieve equity and excellence in our public immunisation programmes. This comprehensive strategy serves as a roadmap for enhancing vaccine delivery, increasing public confidence, and improving coverage across all demographics. The strategy was developed collaboratively by the multidisciplinary team within the National Immunisation Office (NIO) and in depth consultation with HSE and Department of Health colleagues.
The development of this strategy is an important step for the NIO, ensuring that there is a clear pathway and direction for its work over the next four years. The next steps will include developing an implementation plan for the delivery of these objectives, with roles and responsibilities assigned, and engaging with stakeholders so that these objectives can be met. It is planned to review the progress with the implementation of the strategy annually.
The strategic plan offers a clear path to strengthen immunisation programmes, improve vaccine equity, and address public concerns. By focusing on accessibility, innovation, and trust-building, the NIO aims to increase vaccine coverage and enhance public health resilience for the future.
