Brief description
Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) was developed by Dr. Aimee Spector, a psychologist at the University College London, and her colleagues based on research they had done into therapeutic activities with people with dementia. CST involves a series of 14 sessions designed to support people with dementia to maintain their cognitive functions, support them with day-to-day activities, and provide a socially stimulating group activity.
The course details the background of psychosocial interventions leading to CST and gives a review of CST, MCST, and iCST research trials. The key principles of CST are discussed before exploration of the 14 CST sessions, including role play and demonstrations. A detailed action plan is also provided to ensure attendees can carry their learning into their care practice effectively.
