Aim/Context This programme will support key staff to respond to safeguarding concerns in line with HSE Safeguarding Vulnerable Persons at Risk of Abuse Policy and Procedures (2014).
Learning Outcomes

Upon completing this programme you will have:

  • Explored in detail the safeguarding co-ordinating role (incorporating the role of the designated officer/service manager/safeguarding co-ordinator/manager) as outlined in the HSE National Policy and Procedures – Safeguarding Vulnerable Persons at Risk of Abuse
  • Considered relevant legislation and related policies to support effective safeguarding practice Explored practice approaches with a specific focus on undertaking preliminary screenings and producing safeguarding plans
  • Considered effective practice approaches in the assessment and management of safeguarding concerns recognising the importance of risk consideration.

Duration 6.5 hours
Delivery Method

The programme is delivered in a blended format comprising of a number of stages:

  • Prerequisite - Safeguarding Adults at Risk of Abuse eLearning programme on HSELanD.
  • Stage 1 Safeguarding Designated Officer webinar and course reading (practice exploration of policy, safeguarding roles, related legislation and key related policies)
  • Complete assigned case scenario work to consist of preliminary screening and safeguarding plan.
  • Attend and participate in live interactive workshop (prelim screening and safeguarding planning, risk management, peer to peer safeguarding concerns). This workshop may be hosted online or in a classroom.
CPD Eligibility Awarded 7 CEUs by NMBI CORU applicants can apply for credits through the CPD process.

Who can access HSeLanD?

HSeLanD is available to health and social care staff at all levels across the statutory (HSE) and voluntary Health and Social Care sector agencies throughout the Republic of Ireland (Section 38 and 39). It is also available to 3rd level Health and Social Care undergraduate students as well as agency professionals engaged by the HSE.

I’ve enrolled on HSeLanD – now what?

Safeguarding adults designated officer programme Stage 1 and 2.

Stage 2 requires you to complete a scenario based exercise and upload your completed work back onto hseland.

When that work has been marked as complete (please allow 1-2 working days) you may return and choose a date forSafeguarding adults designated officer programme Stage 3 Interactive Workshop 2025

Is there CPD points awarded

Awarded 7 CEUs by NMBI

CORU applicants can apply for credits through the CPD process.

There is no workshop date to choose (for stage 3 workshop)

The National Safeguarding Office schedule a mix of online and classroom workshops with approximately 4 per month.

For all dates see table above & note registration opening and closing dates. Workshop date will be available to book on HSeLanD up to their closing date unless they have already reached capacity prior to that.

Check back (in HSeLanD) as workshops become available each week. Spaces may also become available as cancellations arise in advance of a closing date.

When will I receive the deskwork to complete?

Deskwork is within Safeguarding adults designated officer programme Stage 1 and 2 module on hseland and is also emailed to you when you enrol on the programme.

How do I upload my completed deskwork?

Upload your completed deskwork within the knowledge centre of Safeguarding adults designated officer programme Stage 1 and 2

I have registered for a workshop date and now I can’t make it.

You need select session transfer within the programme on HSeLanD. You will then be able to choose an alternative date.  This must be done before the closing date for that workshop so that someone else can register. 

 

Learners should be aware two occasions of cancelling a place after closing date on HSeLanD means they may not be able to book further workshop dates.

When will I receive the link?

You will get an initial enrolment confirmation for your chosen stage 3 workshop date from HSeLanD.

 

The link for online interactive workshops is sent to your email in the days prior to the workshop.

When will I receive the exact address?

You will get an initial enrolment confirmation for your chosen stage 3 workshop date/location from HSeLanD.

 

The exact room location/address for in person workshops is sent to your email in the days prior to the workshop.

How do I get a certificate of completion?

After your attendance at the stage 3 interactive workshop the National Safeguarding Office will mark off your attendance.

Login to HSeLanD and your certificate will be under the ‘certificates’ tab.

 

You may be required to complete an evaluation on HSeLanD before your certificate becomes available to you.
