Minister officially opens Swan Ward at Naas General Hospital

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly T.D. officially opened the Swan Ward in Naas General Hospital today, Friday, April 12th. There was capital funding of €6.5M allocated to this development to provide for 12 additional single rooms for improved patient care and privacy. This development was highlighted as part of the Governments additional provision of beds in 2023 and is a highly anticipated project for the Hospital and Kildare County.

In addition to this important development, the Hospital is also progressing with plans to develop a new 11-bed Acute Medical Assessment Unit, a 15-bed Admissions Unit and have a bed replacement plan in place identifying opportunities to replace current infrastructural challenging areas for improved patient care and access.

On the official opening of the new unit, Kieran McDonald, General Manager commented: “We are delighted to welcome Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly T.D. to Naas today. We appreciate the support and investment in the Hospital for the people of Kildare and its surrounds. The opening of the Swan Ward is one of a series of developments that we have planned for the Hospital as we are striving to improve patient experience, patient flow and integration with our community partners and for improved quality of care for our patients.”

Speaking at the opening of the ward, Minister Donnelly said: “I was delighted to meet with management and staff at Naas General Hospital today and officially open the new Swan Ward and see first-hand the government investment being delivered in our Hospitals. This new infrastructure provides Naas General Hospital with 12 extra beds to more appropriately manage patients and provide single room accommodation for those requiring isolation and therefore limiting the spread of infection, protecting the most vulnerable patients.”

Kate Killeen White, Regional Executive Officer of the HSE Dublin and Midlands added: “I'm pleased to be here at Naas General Hospital today, meeting the staff and sitting down with the management team to discuss the plans for upcoming developments in the Hospital. I look forward to working together to focus on enhancing patient care, upgrading facilities, and creating a better environment for both staff and visitors."
