Regional Hospital Mullingar Purple Crochet Hearts Project

RHM-Purple-Heart-Crochet

This new initiative at Regional Hospital Mullingar hopes to bring some comfort to our bereaved families by giving them a token of the continuing bond they have with their loved one after death. It is the aim of this project that all our bereaved families will be given a crochet heart after their loved one has died, which they can bring home as a comforting keepsake. The other matching heart will be left in the hand of their loved one. The families can also swap over the hearts before leaving the hospital as a way to create a connection by leaving the heart they had been holding with their loved one.

Now we need your help

We are looking for volunteers to help us make these beautiful crochet hearts and when we have sufficient supplies we will begin the rollout of the hearts in all clinical areas. If you would like to take part:

Download the pattern and instructions (PDF)

Please send your purple hearts to:

Emma O’Sullivan,
Bereavement Clinical Nurse Specialist,
Regional Hospital Mullingar,
Longford Road,

Or, drop them off at Regional Hospital Mullingar reception for the attention of Emma O’Sullivan, Bereavement Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Please remember to attach your name and contact details with your purple hearts so that we know who sent them.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.
