These promises were further reinforced by Minister of State Butler, in November 1993 who announced that stalled recruitment would begin in January 2024 with the seven day service initiated by March 24, this promise was subsequently repeated (new cardiac staff recruitment to begin) by the junior minister in recent weeks confirming that she has a signed commitment from the senior minister as to recruitment approval. There has been no listing within the public jobs portal advertising such positions which one assumes means this recruitment has not been authorised to date. Can the minister advise what is the number of personnel / new positions to be filled as part of the new 7 day service delivery, what stage is recruitment at, what is the final deadline proposed to achieve the full recruitment number, understanding all of the above, what is the target date to begin the seven day service, can the minister confirm that funding has been authorised and released to UHW); the stage recruitment is at; the final deadline proposed to achieve the full recruitment number; the target date to begin the seven-day service; if he will confirm that funding has been authorised and released to University Hospital Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

To ask the Minister for Health if he is aware of concerns regarding the relocation of paediatric services/ward in Cork (Closure of Mercy University Hospital paediatric service and relocated to Cork University Hospital. Concerns that have been raised with me in relation to the closure of the paediatric department in the Mercy University Hospital (MUH). I understand that the paediatric service in the Mercy has now closed and transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH). The MUH paediatric ward had a stellar reputation and catered for very vulnerable children, specifically, in the Haematology and Oncology Unit. I understand that there are two main concerns regarding this move. Firstly, that the facilities in the Oncology and Haematology unit will be downgraded because of the move to CUH. MUH had the capacity to make and administer infusions onsite. I believe that CUH does not have the capacity to make infusions onsite, which could result in delays or even the possibility of patients having to travel to Dublin. Can assurances be provided that the relocation will not impact facilities being provided in the Oncology and Haematology unit?); if he or his Department has been briefed regarding the concerns in relation to this relocation; the capacity or number of beds available in the new paediatric unit in CUH; his views on whether it is sufficiently resourced; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
