A budgetary Service plan is required to provide the extension to seven day cath lab activity - will the minister confirm that such a budget is ringfenced and approved within the southwest hospital group budget plan to commence this activity in quarter 2023 with the opening of the second cath lab which is the latest HSE appointed date); and if he will make a statement on the matter.
To ask the Minister for Health his views on a matter concerning a laboratory at University Hospital Waterford (The minister will be aware that with the development of a second cardiac catheterization laboratory at University Hospital Waterford some informal medical opinion has circulated suggesting this laboratory could be repurposed periodically to provide for vascular surgical procedures. The vascular unit at University Hospital Waterford has for years been looking for increased funding to accommodate its extension patient lists but also to reduce the need for the transfer of acute procedures outside the region. Understanding the increasing catchment size presenting at University Hospital Waterford and understanding that Waterford and the South East region has the fastest growing population of all the regions of the country will the minister confirm whether a business case for the development of a vascular laboratory has been progressed for UHW by Southwest Hospital Group and if not will the minister give instruction to South West group management to formally begin such a process for presentation to the national capital and property steering committee so that a funding timeline can be established); and if he will make a statement on the matter.
