To ask the Minister for Health the status of ophthalmology clinics (I have been advised that the ophthalmology clinic (eyes) is ceasing in Cavan town area because all outpatients have to move out of Cavan General Hospital. This clinic was very active five days a week seeing up to 24 (ophthalmologist) and 14 paients orthtopist) roughly. It was run by an ophthalmologist and a orthtopist. Now reduced clinics are happening in Virginia. The Monaghan clinic has not fully resumed. The waiting list is now up to one year for recalls that is without new referrals. Some of these patients would have glaucoma pressures, cataracts, branch retinal and central venous occlusions to name but a few. It would be very important that this vital service be resumed somewhere in Cavan town area along with the clinic in Virginia (which the ophthalmologist attends two days a week) and Monaghan clinic be recommended eventhough with reduced patients rather than not happening. ); the days on which the services are operational; the locations of the clinics; if clarity will be provided in relation to clinics in Cavan town; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
