Contract for the provision of Free GP Care to all Children under the age of 8

The Department of Health, the HSE and the Irish Medical Organisation concluded an Agreement on a range of measures, including but not limited to, the extension of eligibility to GP Visit Cards for all children aged 6 and 7 years.

If you are a new GP and wish to avail of  the Contract for the provision of Fee GP Care to all Children Under the age of 8 please complete the Under 8 Agreement Form which will also be included as part of your overall GMS Application Pack  and return to your local Primary Care Unit Managers office.

The contract document provides very detailed information for GPs on the terms and conditions of the contract.

In addition to providing GP care for all under 8’s the contract  includes a cycle of care for the management of Asthma.  GPs will be required to maintain a register of Child Patients aged under 8 years with a diagnosis of Asthma and provide services to such Child Patients in accordance with the agreed Cycle of Care. The Contract  also includes the provision of periodic wellness checks for children once at age two and once at age five, which are focused on health and wellbeing and disease prevention.
