Staff Health Safety and Welfare

 

Provision of a safe work environment and the implementation of safe work practices for all employees are intrinsically linked to our ability to provide a quality healthcare service to our service users and those who may be affected by our work activities. Through the development of Safety Management Programmes within our services and work locations we strive to ensure that we are not only meeting legislative requirements but also improving the quality of healthcare services thus contributing to improving the standard of safety, health and welfare in the Health Services Directorate.

Staff Health, Safety and Welfare professionals across the HSE provide competent advice, support and guidance to enable managers to develop, implement and monitor their Safety Management Programme. This includes:

  • The development of Safety, Health and Welfare at Work related policies, procedures and guidelines and dissemination and assistance to staff at a local level in implementation of same.
  • Provision of guidance and advice on compliance with statutory duties under the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act 2005 and subsequent legislation, which is inclusive of the risk assessment/risk register process.
  • The development, provision, delivery and recording of relevant training programmes, both statutory and mandatory.
  • Provision of information and guidance on the reporting of accidents, incidents or dangerous occurrences in line with our statutory duties.
  • Assistance with accident/incident investigation and management.
  • Leading out on the system analysis investigation process that can include the investigation of serious incidents.
  • Evaluation and monitoring of the safety management system in place through the audit process
