UL Hospitals Group has announced the appointment of Bernadette Murphy as Operational Director of Nursing at University Hospital Limerick.
Ms Murphy holds a BSc in Nursing, a postgraduate diploma in Acute Medicine Nursing and a BA in Management Practices from the Kemmy Business School in UL. She has worked within the UL Hospitals Group for almost 20 years, as a staff nurse in various wards around UHL and later as CNM2 (clinical nurse manager) on a number of medical wards and in the Acute Medical Unit at UHL.
Ms Murphy has held Assistant Director of Nursing posts in Ennis Hospital and more recently in the Paediatric Department at UHL.This is the first appointment of its kind in a Model 4 (university teaching hospital with tertiary referral and higher level intensive care) hospital in Ireland.
“This is an exciting new position for me,” said Ms Murphy.
“I will be working collaboratively with all disciplines within UL Hospitals to ensure that patient care remains paramount. I will be focused on ensuring that patient experiences are of the highest standard and their expectations of the service are met. UL Hospitals is a wonderful place to work and is a very progressive group. It has seen many new developments, such as the Critical Care Block, the Leben building and a new Emergency Department soon to be opened. Bernadette will be linking with senior management to provide us with improved oversight on what is happening on a day-to-day basis.
