Futuristic innovations

The Innovation Showcase is a special day of exhibitions, presentations and a series of workshops to reveal highlights of eHealth projects in Ireland. These technologies are set to revolutionise Irish Healthcare by 2030. This year’s showcase includes:

  • Futuristic innovations on display for attendees to see and interact with, including exciting Samsung Virtual Reality technologies. You can meet the robotic surgeon, “The Da Vinci Robot”; you can fly around the human body with a swipe of your finger with “Pocket Anatomy”, and so much more
  • The “eHealth Digital Natives Competition”, is a competition for primary and secondary school kids to see which digital native has the next great digital health idea. The finalists will have the opportunity to work with expert mentors to develop their ideas for the ultimate prize of Digital Health Natives of 2017
  • Startups and small businesses from around the world will also showcase their exciting and innovative health ideas. Over 179 Irish companies received €723 million in funding last year, with nearly 35% of these health startups working in eHealth
  • Innovation Presentations from health world experts and clinicians will also take place throughout the day, including “Sixish Nations”, “Rise of the Machines”, “University Challenge” and “Blind Date”. More information about events can be found at www.eh2030.com

Richard Corbridge, Chief Information Officer for HSE and Chief Executive Officer for eHealth Ireland, said: “Health Innovation Week is an exciting opportunity for eHealth Ireland to showcase how it will be enabling connected health through digital; by bringing current and future projects together, through shared experiences and new ways of working, collaborating to show the art of the possible for Health in 2030. It puts people at the centre of driving healthcare innovation, this is the only way to achieve true organisational change and through harnessing the power of the ever-evolving landscape to create a digital fabric and foundation that is essential to support the reform needed in our healthcare system.”

Tony O’Brien, Director General of the HSE, commented: “The innovation showcase demonstrates to us what is possible in healthcare, now and in the future. Innovations and digital technologies are already helping us to build a better health service, and it is inspiring to see so many ideas and creations that will shape healthcare for Irish patients into the future.”

Minister for Health, Simon Harris, TD, added: “The need for innovation is at the core of our drive for improvements in healthcare quality and patient outcomes. The showcase is an opportunity to see first-hand what is possible. At the heart of these technologies are the opportunities made available to positively impact patients’ lives and to support and improve patient safety.”
